Spectral Absence

_E241504lowres for selection_edited.jpg

A multi-media dance project that explores loss and absence.

The performance is a personal exploration that is choreographed with metaphorical imagery to suggest a body working though stages of anticipated, absent and complicated grief to find a new normal.

It is framed by a series of movement rituals, as a way to manage the challenges of bereavement to evoke a notion of hope, through the commonality of a community bonded by grief.

The work is dedicated to my late partner Bruce Murrihy who suffered a stroke and spent two-months in the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Sadly he had a life-threatening stroke while in hospital and I was told Bruce would die in the hospital, I insisted that I take him home to die in dignity rather that in the palliative care unit.

Bruce spent the last two weeks of his life in the privacy and comfort of his home and died peacefully on the 1st September 2023.
